Graduate financial support
The department provides as much financial assistance to graduate students
as is available within departmental and university guidelines, with all
awards granted on a competitive basis. Types of aid available include:
- Tuition Waivers: The department offers a limited number of full
andd partial tuition waivers on a competitive basis. PhD students
receive priority for tuition wavers.
- Teaching/Research Assistantships: The department awards a limited
number of teaching/research assistantships in the form of renewable
annual appointments. These awards require the student to serve
as a teaching assistant for two semesters during the academic year
and to be engaged in a productive research-oriented graduate program
under the advisement of a member of the faculty. The award provides
a yearly stipend in addition to tuition benefits.
- Research Assistantships: Graduate students may be awarded
research assistantships by individual faculty members to assist them
with externally funded research. If you desire a research
assistantship you must make arrangements with a principal investigator
of one of the various funded projects in the department.
- Fellowships: The department awards a limited number of research
fellowships to graduate students engaged in productive research
under the advisement of a faculty member.
